A friend of mine needed to create ideograms of chromosomes and abnormalities. This was my first time using graphics (in C#) to render the ideograms and React for front-end. Turned out to be a fun little project.

"I’m 40. What I’m doing today, I wish I would have done at 30. Jiu jitsu,"

I was training yesterday and had the same conversation. I am a 48 1-strip blue belt and my body is starting to give on the wear and tear.

I'm a 2-stripe white belt. The secret to my success is that I keep showing up. Just don't ever quit.

Everything you said is aligned with my experience in training. BJJ is pure pressure testing of what you are learning and it is as close to fighting without striking and other dirty tactics like eye gouging. I have done traditional martial arts and it was not as close to experience under-pressure training. Also, I find myself in autopilot as well as in a focused, calm state when rolling at times.

I think in a real fight situation, someone who trains would be more calm to deal and, most likely, deescalate the situation because we are accustom to intense situations and our egos are tested so much that we are indifferent to silly challenges that can be fatal in some situations.

Same with where I train BJJ. Everyone is supportive and it helps make training fun.

I have a tween with ADHD, dyslexia, and anxiety. I spend a lot of check in times with her because last school year's remote learning was rough.

I suggest Brazilian Jujitsu. The rolling aspect of training trains you mentally to not to panic and problem solve the situation, deal with pressure, build cardio and relearn how to breathe, and adapt to different body types. Unlike striking martial arts, less worry of CTE.

In regards to what can be learned in an hour, a roll with someone gives you an idea of what it is like to be on the ground with someone in a fight without striking, biting, eye gouging, etc.It is a decent simulation if what would happen when on the ground and the idea that if someone doesn't honor your tap, you can be in big trouble.

^This. I use Biotene because it doesn't have SLS. I used to have this weird issue where after brushing, a residual, thick stuff (saliva? inner membranous lining of mouth?) would gather on my lips. It would be embarrassing wiping it off while talking to someone but it would subside an hour or so from brushing. After reading about SLS, I started looking for and SLS-free tooth paste. Since I have been using and SLS-free tooth paste, I have never had that problem again.

I had the SAME idea after seeing not-so-good options out there. Great job! I am interested on how you did this. The conversion speed is really quick!

Why not good ol' De Morgan's laws?

return !(raw[2]&(QR|AA|TC) == 0 && raw[3]&(Z|RCODE) == 0 )

The code probably goes on to to do additional checks.

This heartbreaking. My deepest sympathy to him and his family. As a parent, I can't even imagine such a loss or how I would even cope with such a situation.
