I quit my remote sw engineering job cold turkey a few months ago. same bullshit as you. But I have a high risk tolerance and supreme confidence in my skills that I can get to the same level or higher in future if I choose to.

You need to observe and learn about the organisation. Who's in charge of what? Who's senior? Who seems to make things happen?
You need to network up and do self-promotion. Your peers have no influence on work allocation and promotions apart from contributing to your reputation with the higher ups by reporting that you did this or that, and that you are the expert in this or that.
getting certs in high demand fields will practically guarantee you sail through any interview process at any company. The hot ones right now are cloud architect, cloud developer, data engineer, and anything security related. Don't pay attention to loser developers who do nothing to keep educated on cutting edge technologies.
