I run marketing for Periscope. Like Chartio, you guys have a great product. We routinely send people your way when they have more business user needs and aren’t a good fit for Periscope.
For those evaluating tools like Periscope/Looker/Chartio:
Whereas Looker focuses on business users, we’ve built Periscope around serving SQL analysts better than anyone else.
If you don't have someone who knows SQL on your team, Looker (or Chartio) is probably a better fit. (though I should mention that some customers have learned SQL through our customer support :)
We’re focused on the SQL analysts who are building dashboards and running reports, day in, day out. With that said, every one of our customers has employees who don’t know SQL, but need to dive into their data. So we’ve built a ton of features to make this easy as well.

Periscope question: "Periscope plugs directly into your databases...."
As I understand it, Periscope is cloud based, so could you elaborate on how it might plug into large locally hosted databases, or is the caveat that my databases must also be in the cloud?
There needs to be a route from the internet to your DB, yes. Sometimes this works because the DB is in the cloud, or sometimes a port or SSH tunnel is opened into a local network.
I second the Watsi recommendation. The combination of their transparency, their 100% donation distribution, and clearly showing me who gets my money/what they get it for has made me comfortable giving to a non-local charity for the first time in years.
Haha, I loved that search results pipe! The product was amazing at the time. It's really too bad that Yahoo didn't try to make something more out of it.
It doesn't make sense and wouldn't for a while. I don't think the potential would justify the market overlap, the work surrounding an acquisition of that size, and the risk of pissing off other large partners that Pinterest needs right now. Pinterest is still in the very early stages of monetizing and I'd imagine they want to get the current stuff right first.
Geeze. Didn't realize they'd hit 11B in valuation, though we don't talk about them as often as AirBnB and Uber.
I guess the question then becomes does Pinterest see it as being worthwhile to buy Etsy out or do they just run them out of the market? Etsy shop owners could simply "pin" links to their stuff and voila off we go. It'll probably come down to the cut Pinterest takes from the sales. If they offer a lower % than Etsy, they'll stand a chance at running Etsy out of the market and seeing a higher conversion rate.
Yes, US citizens have to pay tax no matter where they live. You may be eligible for the Foreign Tax Credit[1] or, even better, the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion[2], though. For 2015, you can exclude up to $100,800 of your earnings with the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion, which will cover most if not all of your salary (for the majority of people).
With our product (Periscope), you type SQL and get charts from your SQL database. We spend a lot of time helping customers with their SQL queries and also write a lot about SQL on our blog. So we thought it'd be a good idea to put together a free guide on writing faster queries. Hope you enjoy it!
