I think Musk has also burned enough of his credibility at this point that people are just not getting as excited as they used to be by the "next year for sure" type promises.

When he says "bot 3 by the end of this year with mass production next year", it's difficult to believe.

This might be a hot take but I'm usually fine with this... If its authentic which most of the time it isn't.

But I don't know, I feel like personal stories are what really makes a blog worth reading?

I don't like it when it's unnecessary "info dump" type. Like, "we all know the benefits of garlic (proceeds to list the well known benefits of garlic)". It's not personal or relevant.

I just want there to be a well formatted way of viewing the recipe at the bottom for quickly checking the recipe on a second or third visit.

Sure, but there's a time and a place, and when I'm looking for a recipe, especially if I'm landing on a site for the first time and don't even know who the author is yet, it's the time and place to do the shopping or the cooking, not for reading even an interesting origin story.

I discovered justtherecipe.com and never went back. So far it's free and ad-free, though I suspect that will end soon.

I remember many years ago seeing exactly this project being led by a researcher in Chile [1].

It's not really a new idea, i don't know what happened to this project though.

Can't wait to cash my $2.43 check is 3 years!

Nintendo is not really a company whose target audience is people who care about homebrew and device ownership.

I think although it would make a very vocal segment of the consumers angry, it's not something that ultimately would hurt Nintendo.

It's kind of sad imo but it's the reality of it, Nintendo is one of the most litigious and protective companies in the world when it comes to their intellectual property and this isn't a new thing.

Yes, and no.

That vocal part of the consumers are those that grew up with the old 'you buy it, you get to play it' approach.

And those consumers are now the ones who will decide what their children get to play. Needless to say, I do not see Nintendo in my household anymore after the switch2 announcement.

Nintendo's focus is on the generation that came after you. Same as Reddit after the whole API and 3rd party app extinction event. The vocal types are the ones that reminisce about the pre-DMCA days and whine about corporate greed and "you'll own nothing, just what the WEF wants".

There is an entire generation of consumers that grew up with Wii U, Switch 1, Netflix and Spotify and don't know or care about ownership and future preservation. That's where the money is. You may refuse to buy one for your kids but there're many more parents who don't play video games or care enough to keep them from getting one for their kids.

The problem with that idea is that you need evangelists. It's not something that Nintendo will feel now, but I have successfully converted 6 families into PC gaming with my kid. I caught them at kindergarten and now they are in Valve's garden. My sister's family and her circle is all Playstation. Her kids have never touched Nintendo.

Sure there are people who don't care, but those people don't bring people into the fold. It's a slow erosion. It's how Microsoft is losing ground to Chromebooks and Macs. People who don't know aren't hearing that they need a windows machine as much. They hear they need a Mac for security/ease of use or all they need is a Chromebook because they just surf the web anyway.

Microsoft of course will be fine because they have business on lock, but they used to have consumers as well.

Many kingdoms have fallen because the offspring of the King couldn't rule.

I'm not sure about the internal governance structures at Valve but that's really what should be important when it comes to maintaining the corporate culture alive.

I think they've done a good job so far, and I'd be surprised if they didn't have plans in place to try keeping the company going in much the same way once Gabe is gone.

I don't see much of a reason to buy this over the older Palma given that they have the exact same screen and the older palma has a processor that's more than fast enough for e-ink.

I don't think fingerprint recognition is a significant enough feature to choose this device over the older model given the price difference.

I am expecting for them to release either a color or a Carta 1300 device sometime this year. Which would make sense as an upgrade.

This is an amazing open-source project for android.

There's good web-based and command based tools for this use-case when you're on the PC but I've found pretty much all the options in the Playstore to be cash-grabs riddled with ads and poor functionality.

I've been surprised at the gems you can find in the open source world when it comes to android apps. Particularly those build on material you as they tend to offer a very consistent and good looking interface.

I'm very interested in seeing how he's going to approach adapting this particular part of the story.

I feel like the first two movies of Dune he directed, which cover the first book, were much more world/action oriented as it was that way in the book too. But Dune Messiah is much more introspective so it'll be much more challenging to show the change in the characters.

I'm not really nervous, more so excited to see the adaptation.

Before I swapped to Kobo I jailbroke my Kindle Voyage and installed Koreader on it. It was amazing.

I would have kept the voyage for longer but the micro-usb was killing me. That's the only reason, the battery was still holding on, it had turning page "buttons" (better than nothing) and an amazing screen.
