My father did the same thing. He used to smoke a pack a day and the day that I was born he quit and never touched it again, and then when I was old enough to understand cigarettes, he taught me to never start smoking and I never have.
Though it took my dad a bit longer, he managed to quit for good when I was a kid. Still died of lung disease at 80, but I have to think it would likely have been much sooner if he'd never quit. Anyway, watching him struggle with it when I was young definitely make me repulsed by cigarettes (and most other addictive substances) such that I've certainly never been tempted to try them.
Not necessarily. I’m over 40 now and had a total of 3 cigarettes in my life, all of them in my twenties, parties, hanging out with people smoking etc.
Every time it was a terrible experience and I was amazed why people do this to themselves…
I don't think OP advice is wrong as a general advice though. I've also smoked very sporadically and never got really hooked (as opposed to my whole family), but plenty of regular smokers started with that first one. It's better to not take any chances.
No need to be drama queen. I am also 40+, had for sure 10-20 cigarettes in my teenage years to try it and on social ocassions with friends, never saw the appeal, found the taste disgusting (and remember being dizzy) and don't remember my 1st cigarette at all. For the record I dislike as well taste of beer or coffee, got used to wine, which I drink only when visiting father or him visiting me, so totally like twice a year (though it's then multiday affair). It's same with alcohol addiction, drank fairly enough during teenage years, then pretty much stopped completely during 20s (only rarely with colleagues), then around 30 while in China was drinking daily for lunch and dinner 40+ % spirit (baijiu) for months with colleagues, then completely stopped overnight after finding better (but less laid-back) job.
Now recreational marijuana (ideally through bong) is way way more appealing than dumb tobacco cigarettes which do nothing, had it during my teenage years and also during my 20s on different ocassions with colleagues/friends (one of them used it during cancer treatment) and I can see myself having some even now in 40s if I could buy it legally.

I bought a FujiFilm X-E5 recently, which is an amazing camera for size and money, but I shocked at how miserable their iOS app is. It takes several minutes per photo to transfer. The camera and phone run out of battery before a small memory card is transferred.
So I got Claude to help me reverse engineer their protocol using a mixture of BT and Wifi capture tools, then built a native app in Swift that works on Mac and iOS and by disabling a bunch of on camera processing I got it to transfer a photo in about 3 seconds over wifi bridge. I’ve been able to multithread this to 3 concurrent downloads without crashing the camera.
Has anyone here used Telnyx? I tried to build a product against their API last year and 3 weeks after signing up they banned my account and made it impossible to get an answer as to why or re-enable it.
I believe Telnyx and Twilio nuked every small or personal accounts at some point because they couldn't risk those being used for spam or scams.
There might have been some real risks for them, IDK.
But it is ironic that now Telnyx brand itself as an AI company but they couldn't detect that I am just calling some family once in a while and not involved in massive spam campaign.
The only one who kept me around was voip.ms but it literally doesn't work.
I am still looking for a decent VoIP provider to simply make calls.
I tried, but they used some 3rd party KYC platform whose country selection dropdown seemed to have every country except Finland (even Åland, a region of Finland, was there).
I've had a pretty good experience using it to send SMS. Any chance you didn't get a 10DLC or toll free verification and tried to send too many messages?
I did, they asked me to open a support ticket, which I did, and the last response I got was:

The last time I applied for a credit card (about 4 years ago) in Australia, the bank used an app that read the photo page and chip of my passport to verify that it was a real document. That process does verify the authenticity of the document.
There are IDs in Australia which can be verified this way. There are also more than enough accepted IDs that can not, rendering such verification mechanisms rather pointless.
On another note, it's important to keep in mind that this is really the bank's problem. It's not something consumers should worry about.
I’ve been playing around with Zed, supports local and cloud models, really fast, nice UX. It does lack some of the deeper features of VSCode/Cursor but very capable.
