Important and often underlooked feature of markdown is that it's very readable as plain text. A lot easier to read than say latex or html.

I like to think of markdown as a high level markup language that gets compiled down to html. There is always a fallback to write html directly in markdown.

It was always THE main feature, that you can have something from both worlds in a win-win scenario. I don’t understand why someone would invent new html instead of appreciating markdown for it’s elegant simplicity

> a simple example is the disable-right-click functionality

This is a part of a W3C browser spec and every web browser has to implement it. But you're right that people writing the spec work for companies selling web browsers.

Every browser has to implement it but there's nothing saying they can't let the user disable that functionality, either.

Meaningful commit messages are meant to be read later and be useful. I'm not going to read through 8 sentences of generated slop, would rather look through the diff.

Would be fun to weight each language by average number of stars, but normalize by repository count.

Data analysys without adjusting groups by popularity is a bit lame.

What statistic are you proposing? Number of repos / avg stars ?

Just average stars by language would be fun.

Supports iOS 17.

Ad blocking on Safari is partially broken before iOS 18.6, hence the requirement of iOS version on uBlock Origin Lite.

Absolutely. Pi hole does network blocking via DNS, uBoL does blocking via DOM queries.

> You can’t buy this without buying the Steam Controller.

Oh, this is ugly! Haven't noticed this being mentioned anywhere.

AFAIK one Steam Controller is included in the purchase of a Steam Machine already. Also, I find it unlikely that the Steam Machine is not going to work with other controllers, since the SteamOS works with pretty much any controller out there (Xbox, PS4/PS5, Switch, 8-bit Do, you name it).

Not sure what the author meant here. Maybe they're referring for the fact that you can't purchase a cheaper version of Steam Machine without the Steam Controller.

> With The Steam Machine, you might be able to finally properly run DOOM Eternal and all of the Assassin’s Creed games. That you don’t like playing.

In my experience, relation of game's hardware requirements to the amount of fun it provides is inversely proportional. Best games of all time (opinionated, of course) run well on integrated graphics.

> Reading about how to do the thing isn't doing the thing

In my book, doing research/understanding the domain is a crucial part of "doing the thing". Often reading about how to do the thing makes you reconsider doing it at all.

I also think this is true, but one thing distinguishes the two and that is commitment. Resarch opens up new possibilities while doing the thing narrows them. Many people (myself included) have difficulties with that. Reading will only get you so far and I think that is what the poem adresses.
