Yeah, a lot of these places are still old school. They might have a DVD recorder in the back office that rewrites after x hours/days. So its not "we mandate them to buy the hardware and that we have access to at all times". Obviously places can do that with firms like ADT, just saying it isn't a clear cut government ploy.
Whose to say that one of the (many) reasons it currently isn't successful is that by feeling disconnected from friends and family it further makes them feel separate from society?
Used one travelling Xmas 2013, its pretty good value theres no denying that. I did have some problems with some binaries, I'm sure someone else could better explain it but I think it was something to do with the processor it runs on, mySQL (I think it was) was a nuisance to get up and running because of it. Must have worked, though, because I worked on it for a month or so.
Obviously it doesn't compare to something like a Macbook Air - which I have with me this time round.
They're trying to make some very serious criticisms without detracting too much from the fact that Internet.org actually got off their arses to do something about the digital divide.
I think its fair. They're trying to give some degree of credit where its due, as opposed to an all out attack. Its hard for me personally to agree with an all out attack piece when I'm conscious of the seemingly good intentions of the project (conspiracies aside).
Whoah. Uncalled for dude. This is a tech site you have to remember, he's a CEO of a tech site/husband to SS/seems like he was a big figure in the community.
I'm sure every single one of us cares that people died yesterday. Don't want to get into a big debate, jus sayin. #deepbreaths
Not even kidding I was about to say the same thing. Just got back from travelling, 2 months in Thailand 1 month in Australia. Would recommend it to anyone feeling like this.
Words cant describe, I feel reinvented. Note: I was disconnected the WHOLE time. Things take on a new meaning.
