Your comment makes me feel mixed feelings. First, I think generally speaking, we do live in a time and society where people can be and are healthier than ever before. I agree with you, that it should be a priority to further improve that situation. Some of your points however (e.g. glasses, jawline, beatiful, well rounded) sound like you are confusing modern beauty standards with good health. As someone who really enjoys wearing glasses, I am also a tiny bit offended by your view :) And kids seeing well with glasses vs not seeing sharp is an absolute no brainer to me... There are glasses for doing sports too. The main driver of poor health today, imo is inequality. Being healthy is a privilege. While, generally speaking, illness does not care about your net worth, treatment options do. Eating healthy is expensive in terms of money and time. So are healthy hobbies, physio therapists and so on. Living a healthy lifestyle should not be better rewarded but more accessible.

I have worn glasses since I was a kid, and I didn't ever really mind too much (though I'm starting to be bummed out by it now that I'm in my 40s and my eye accommodation is starting to noticeably atrophy), but... you "really enjoy" wearing glasses? Why? How? Regardless, even if you have vision that doesn't require glasses, you can always just wear un-powered lenses--or even just empty frames--if that's what makes you happy...

Lovely project! A little trick against the smudging with some paper is to apply a thin layer of hairspray to the page after plotting/printing and then letting it dry for a bit. We do this for riso prints at our universities printshop. Should work just the same with pen plots.

Thanks for the tip! Does it make paper shiny and stiff?

My guess is, that similar flaws have been known and exploited for ages. I doubt that iridium was ever truly safe to begin with. I was recently looking into renting an iridium satellite modem and while doing so, I found a pdf on some shady private intelligence agencies website that documented a tool to intercept calls and messages as well as locating users of the network. The screenshots looked like a late 90s, early 2000s windows ui and talked about special radio equipment that the tool interfaces with.

Mid-2000s. A lot of them have dates, and they're all Jan/Feb 2007.

mullvad.net usually gets really high praise. I am not a user, but if i was looking for a vpn service, that's what I would personally get.

That entire website is a deep, deep rabbit hole and I absolutely love it. Thanks for sharing!

Pun intended?

Sadly, this article is plain wrong. I've been working in the gov. IT sector in switzerland and reading the headline and article gives a false impression.

The aforementioned law EMBAG does not mandate the use of open source software.

What it does is mandate that software develeoped especially for the federal government needs to be open sourced, unless that is not possible due to licensing issues or national security reasons. The whole swiss administration is microsoft based.

Also, most day-to-day administrative tasks are handled by the cantons (think state) administrations, and they are, as far as I understand, not subject to this law. The federal and cantonal administration are quite separated in switzerland.

All of this happened in november 2023
