As far as I understand those apps were illegally gathering and storing personal data - real names and addresses - storing them abroad - which is no-no not only in Russia but in EU (GDPR).
In terms of voting - people can still lookup candidates proposed by Navalny's team online without breaking the law.
Surprisingly most of them are from Communist party of Russia.

It's not surprising at all. The communist party is the second-largest party here (polling at around ~20% in the last polls I saw). The point of the Navalny app is to highlight the candidates most likely to win against Единая Россия (Putin's party) in each district, which will usually be the candidate of the second largest party (with some exceptions).

Regarding your observation; I might be wrong, but I think it depends on the time when political topcis are dominant and when hardcore tech stuff is being posted. It seems to me that in the (German) morning hours political stories dominate, in the evening tech stuff is dominant.
ZeroHedge I would guess. A news site that is nominally about financial markets. It sits in some really weird political spot as a world news site that I don‘t quite understand.
Though bears are not koalas I wonder why there's no compassion campaign in the worldwide media? Nobody gathering financial aid and doing any other such things.
All the Belarusian authorities need to do is to send the detained person on the next flight to Vilnius, as Ukrainian authorities have done, and this incident will be over, too.
On 21st of October 2016 Ukraine did the same to Belavia flight, including fighter jet etc. I haven't heard of any international uproar or calls to ban Ukrainian air companies / avoid airspace.
My daughter plays guitar and violin and this is a very common issue. Moreover Youtube automatically labels some original performances as if they use third-party soundtrack. Both annoying and flattering.
