I think it is like if you gave everyone spray paint cans and said go paint, you wouldn't expect all the buildings around to have giant Basquiat inspired murals everywhere.

It would just be ugly, shitty graffiti, everywhere.

I think it has a fundamentally different problem. Any GPT I have tried, I could just ask chatGPT4 the same thing so I haven't bothered exploring much.

I am still waiting to hear of a GPT that is obviously better than chatGPT4 by itself. Maybe it exists but I haven't heard of it.

Short of GPT5 powered GPTs while I can only still talk directly to GPT4, I don't think I am going to be that impressed with anything using the chatGPT API compared to just asking chatGPT4 directly or using the API for my own needs. I don't need an interface for what I want to do with the API. ChatGPT4 can help me write that myself quite easily. I think the future looks much more like this than some app store knockoff.

If Sagan put out Cosmos tomorrow for the first time it would be branded trash and misinformation by a dangerous, idiot inquisitor style, media landscape doing everything it can to not go broke.

A hypothesis about aliens is just a slow pitch, right over the plate for the inquisitors to smash.

The inquisitors are hell bent on making sure young people understand that the nail that sticks out gets hammered down.

Avante-garde/experimental film making is the main benefactor of all this.

Basically, cool looking video no one watches. I say that as a huge fanboy/artist myself. It is like Christmas every other day right now. All this VC money being set on fire to make better Avante-garde film tools is just wonderful. A dream come true.

Practice can also give you this look up table of canned responses that makes you sound robotic.

People won't like your answer but I pretty much agree.

My career opportunities are what my friends can help me with because I don't have Terence Tao's CV to beat out the highly recommended candidate by the friend of the hiring manager. I think many really underestimate the high probability of being up against the hiring manager's friend of a friend and delusional in their own ability to beat that friend out. If someone is such a standout and genius they really shouldn't be giving advice to the average person anyway in this area.

I am old but the best thing I read when I was young was that it was unlikely I will have one career but several careers and have to reinvent myself a few times.

That was true for me and even more true now. Learn to love to learn and reinvent yourself or become a plumber's apprentice.

I would suspect it is some type of clickbait "science".

The reason to do this study is to produce the headline and have us read it.

This certainly has nothing to do with how someone like Karl Popper would define science.

Or just delete all your social media.

All these hacks remind me of what I tried to do to cut down smoking cigarettes. They work for a bit but doesn't solve the real problem. The only thing that really works long term is to simply quit smoking cigarettes completely.

I am on a strict diet right now. The problem is people don't track calories enough.

If I just go by how I feel I will end up eating so much more than I think I am eating.

Then it is frustrating thinking your on a diet when you really haven't cut any calories so the scale isn't going down.

Bodybuilders have had this figured out for a long time. There is no bodybuilder ever that doesn't track their calories when getting ready for a bodybuilding show because otherwise your going to over eat.

Not tracking calories is just a stupid strategy. No one goes running without knowing how far or long they are running for. No one lifts weights without having any idea how much the weights weigh. For some reason people expect to be able to do this with food of all things when we have evolved to eat as much as we can.

True, but at the same time humans seem to have a self delusion/bias of efficiency.

If we were really Homo economicus there wouldn't be so many bullshit jobs right now.

Homo economicus would be excited about the 2024 computer chess championships. The idea of grand masters would be a relic of the past.

Homo economicus in 2050 would be a single CEO with everything else done by AI. A real human though will hire another human for some bullshit job just to tell the owner how great they are. Over time, that human with the bullshit job will gain status in society and hire/convince the owner they need to hire human number 3 to tell human number 2 how great they are. Hell, a real human will waste money on an office and hire other humans for bullshit jobs just so their parking spot feels like something special in the morning.

Magnus Carlsen couldn't be doing better even though Homo economicus would no longer be impressed at all with a rating of 2882.

Homo economicus would think that rating sucks but humans have nothing to do with Homo economicus.
