Well, both are 100 pct in the pocket so the only possible answer is a third entity which is highly unlikely.

I don't think it's outright corruption so much as quid quo pro. Think about PRISM and other such things. US tech companies operate globally, hoover up a vast amount of personal information, and pass it all right along to the US intelligence agencies.

So the more intrusive and vast these companies become, the more the US intelligence apparatus gains from it. Polls consistently there's extremely high levels of concern about what companies are doing what people's information, and we have a million 'real life' privacy laws. The complete absence of anything meaningful on the digital front, from either party, is highly conspicuous.

This is a very reasonable take. No idea why this has been downvoted, besides possible the hordes of (ex-)big tech employees here who just can't come to terms with their (ex-)employers being about as ethical as those they like to think of as beneath them.

Biden appointed Lina Khan. "Both parties are the same" is lazy and unhelpful.

It's wiser to judge the parties by actions rather than rhetoric. From both parties there has been complete absence of meaningful action on the issue, even though both have regularly cycled through complete control of government with majorities in the house and senate while also holding the presidency.

Both parties have sued Alphabet and won a major case, although the outcome isn't ideal.

Meta and Apple have also been sued by both parties for monopolistic behavior.

The Bell system was broken up primarily for being the largest telephony operator while also being the largest seller of telephones. Microsoft, prior to PRISM and modern weirdness, initially lost an antitrust case over bundling Internet Explorer with Windows that could have led to their breakup.

Modern stuff has gone so absurdly far beyond these, with anticompetitive behavior essentially being the core of their entire businesses, that you'd think we're living under a completely new legal system. We are not, take Alphabet or Meta back to AT&T's era, and they'd be broken up on summary judgement.

Saying that I said both parties are the same is far lazier.

How else should we interpret "both parties are 100% in the pocket"?

You even conveniently quantified it for us so that there's no confusion that you're saying they're exactly the same.

Those jobs don't scale at all so you can't have the ability for the top .001 pct make significant money

You don't. It's all nonsense so unless you are planning on doing something official with the material just pirate it. Copyright went far beyond lunacy decades ago and should be ignored if possible.

I wonder why should Tesla , who wanted to give us free electricity lost all his patents (time ran out in those times) while he was still living. And these rent seeking entities get to keep their copyrights for far too long. Are they more important than Nikola Tesla?

Someone would retort that patent is not same as copyright. But really dude that's all just made up stuff by politicians and corporations. In the end Tesla died pennyless and these corporations and entities get to hoard all the human creativity till what it looks like an eternity for my meagre life span.

Patents can hold up economic development of certain industries much more than copyright. Which can have huge implications if they are on fundamentals.

For example commercial 3D printing (using FDM) was likely significantly stalled until the relevant patent expired.

Culture is of course important but there can always be new successful Alternatives.

As a society, modern humanity has decided that capitalism is more important than free electricity, even if it saves lives.

We have enough electricity that everyone in the USA could have a generous free allowance.

We've decided it's better to charge for electricity, and if an AI company can pay for it to train models, but someone freezing to death in their home cannot pay for it, that capital is a signal that the data-center should get the electricity, not the dying individual.

This isn't a matter of copyright, this is a matter of how we structure society.

This is a tech forum, you don't need to act smart because you know piracy exists. It is an interesting question.

I had no idea about this. I don't see how anybody who is buying one of these because of the repair-ability would complete the purchase if they knew this. I also don't see how they can make all of their user-friendly claims if this is the case.

These things are a proxmox home lab user's lifeline. My only complaint is that you have to change your default host shell to bash to run them. You only have to do that for the initial container creation though.

Would it? When I have been uninsured I paid less for bills because the group gave me the cash price. When they are billing an insurance company they bill much more.

I want to use it, but the first bank I tried (wealthfront) only exports in qfx so that's a dealbreaker.

Is that tied to the port or the MAC because the device can just change addresses and you won't know.

OpenWrt, make a wifi network only for those nasty spying devices, printers, tvs etc

You would know if your device starts updating. And if it changes mac to get around the block then it goes in the trash.

That would make debate a sport. My rule is that it has to have a ball, a race or a fight. I guess you could argue that debate has a fight.

> That would make debate a sport.

True. I left out "athleticism" but should have included it. I just took that as a given.

That said, I don't think the idea of debate being a sport is entirely ridiculous. The Olympics had poetry as an event for 40 years or so...

Gymnastics, javelin, high jump, long jump, target shooting, figure skating…

I don't consider those sports. They are mostly games like darts. Competitions that are won by arbitrary judging are their own category of thing. I know fighting sports are judged when there is no KO or concession, but that's why they say don't leave it to the judges because that is not a true win.
