VPN problemo solved.

It's traffic analysis. They know when something 'subversive' gets posted, they can filter out who was connecting to the site at that time, get a list of suspects. Obviously 99% of the traffic is coming from mobiles which have great metadata tagging already, also geolocation. Cafe wifi you can use from across the road, in a busy place etc, much harder.

Mobile use cloudflares 1.1.1.1 with vpn... free

Does Warp actually hit the CF Bangkok endpoint when in Thailand? Is local regulation affecting Warp rollout location wide? This would circumvent the licensed international gateways as I imagine Cloudflare is backhauling this traffic to Singapore fine as a CDN edge but as ingest for VPN traffic sounds risky... Can you check? I bet your hitting the Cloudflare SGP cluster instead so still leaving Thailand via True/CAT/AIS/TOT/3BBJastel.

They'll know you're using a VPN. You'll still be suspicious.

Like every other business professional...

It's possible to discern "privacy" VPNs like PIA or an OpenVPN/SSH tunnel to your house from corporate ones like Cisco Anyconnect, etc.

US was already shown to be behind in 5g, China is already caught up. Heck they even helped AMD catch up to Intel, and see what sort of major success that was ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD%E2%80%93Chinese_joint_vent... ) . These moves are there to slow it down. But China can make other moves like moving tech knowledge from one company to others and play all sorts of games. Fact is knowledge despite what Americans want the world to believe, replicates and distributes powers in ways which are very difficult to stop. If China is not building it, they will move the knowledge to some ally which can build it. It's almost guaranteed at this point that we are already living in a bifurcated world where US will need to manufacture everything in other countries than China. And yet China's manufacturing edge is not going anywhere. They can clone any US product anyone else is producing and sell it to their trading bloc.

"US was already shown to be behind in 5g, China is already caught up."

So the mainstream media and politicians would have us believe.

"Heck they even helped AMD catch up to Intel, and see what sort of major success that was ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD%E2%80%93Chinese_joint_vent.... ) "

All I see here is an agreement for AMD to transfer technology to China, for x86 chips destined for chinese-only server market. Further, that agreement appears stalled, since AMD will NOT transfer their Zen2 technologies in this agreement. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-zen-china-x86-ip-licen...

"And yet China's manufacturing edge is not going anywhere. They can clone any US product anyone else is producing and sell it to their trading bloc."

More like their manufacturing may not be going anywhere...their market has been shrinking by leaps and bounds.

They can have Iran, AFAIC.

I don't know but from a science point of view all our last research are based on paper coming from people at China companies (Alibaba, Tencent), that currently have the edge in our specific domain (machine learning). So yes in domains that mainly require your brain they have caught up if not ahead.

Machine learning is a wide field. Could you give some examples of research you've done based on papers that came out of Alibaba, Tencent, etc.? I'm curious.

of course ML is a wide field but for instance these paper were quite relevant to our work:

* https://arxiv.org/pdf/1802.03903.pdf * https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/8710885 but they are numerous, and the work done at Tsinghua University is very interesting

By the way down voting a comment based on facts is rather silly...

Thanks for the links.

By the way, the site guidelines exhort us to

Please don't comment about the voting on comments. It never does any good, and it makes boring reading.

Alibaba has an edge in machine learning? The CEO of Alibaba is palpably clueless about anything relating to do with machine learning and I haven't seen any evidence that anyone else at the helm of the org is any better.

Watch Elon Musk try really hard not to cringe at the shit Jack Ma says on the topic of ML.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3lUEnMaiAU

Daniel zhang is the ceo, get your facts right and daniel is way savy in tech than jack ma.

Jack Ma stepped down just a month ago and was CEO at the time of the interview. He's completely clueless and he was at the helm. Those are facts.

> So the mainstream media and politicians would have us believe.

Do you have sources from non-"mainstream media" that indicate otherwise?

Presently, I'd consider The Verge to be mainstream, but Nilay was on point with his skepticism: https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/23/18637213/5g-race-us-leade...

I think one could produce articles supporting either view quite easily, which them becomes a task of separating the agendas of its authors.

I’m pretty sure the poster you replied to was talking not about deployment of 5G but the fact that Huawei is supposed to be far ahead of its non Chinese peers when it comes to 5G tech. That’s basically why the US has to ban the supply of tech to them, because otherwise nearly every 5G deployment would be Huawei.

Is that the case or is it that the Chinese government is subsidizing the 5g products that Huawei makes so that western countries will purchasing them?

Yeah it's a national security concern because if someone is leading so heavily they will destroy your lead and then you will never catch up. Just look at what happened to so many European tech companies.

China did not help AMD.

AMD partnered with a Chinese partner and produced /knowledge transfered an older chipstack.

Ps. Everyone can manufacture, so not sure what your mean with edge. There are a lot centralized/easy to be found in China, that's true.

>US was already shown to be behind in 5g

Since 5g is technology with not much utility that nobody but the telcos want, that is probably wise on their part.

Why can't you bring back Congress?

Because people have been brainwashed by media and BJP propaganda that there is no alternative.

When Indira lost after emergency, there was no alternative either.

One would think that with technology, people would make well informed decisions. They don't!

I agree the media has rolled over and completely in bed with the BJP regime. The economy has been robust until now, wait and watch once it starts going downhill..which is now..

The Congress party has a leader in Rahul Gandhi who is incompetent, and the self-inflicted damage over the years, makes them a non-choice.

Zuck's views need some scientific validation. Has Bill Gates investment paid off better than similar amounts of money spent by the government... or philanthropy in general?

Or AI drones that the US will soon be using to kill various people around the world.

What was great about India compared to Pakistan was the fact that it was a tolerant multi-ethnic democracy that may emulate Europe and North American democracy and become a stable functional multi-faced growing democracy. That dreams seems to be giving away to India another country very much like Pakistan which has little tolerance for anybody. If this non-sense keeps up who knows maybe the military takes over the country taking cues from Modhi's strongman tactics. That has been in fact one major downfall of Pakistan.

Please cite evidence beyond NYT and WaPo's ultra-left leaning screams. Thank you.

NYT and WaPo are ultra-left? You have to be kidding.

But tell us, what is your position on the Muslims in India.

No special favors to be doled out to anyone irrespective of religion. Muslims were favored as minorities by all Congress Governments for votes, which is no longer the case. That hurts many, who scream Muslims are being sidelined. No, they are actually being treated fairly as citizens of India and have the same rights as anyone else. We don't want a case of "Everyone is equal. Some are more equal than others".

The guy you replied to is what you'd call a redneck in USA

No offence intended

Well, you certainly do offend, by ad-hominem, as opposed to providing contrasting data.

NYT and WaPo is an echo-chamber of left-leaning (well, ultra-left as in Antifa may be a stretch, I do agree) liberals who advocate open-borders, increased illegal immigration, increased Government oversight in all aspects of life.

Evidence for what? I’m not clear what part you need citations for? Not OP, fwiw.

Joel Spolsky says anything more than 1k is too much and require approval. Has this amount now changed?

That may be right. I’m in Switzerland where the first level of management usually gets a free pass on things up 5000K or 10000K

Not really Canada needed another source for selling its oil and possibly lumber because America loves strong arming it in trade deals because it's 1/10 the size. So geopolitically this move hurt Canada quite a bit. It could've gotten itself out of it by releasing Meng on some technicality but would've then felt Trump's ire.

The US sucks up enough of our oil. And China doesn’t really build with lumber.

But food crops? China is creating a mess in that Canadian department.

or don't. decisions decisions. if netflix can get a few good shows every month or a few movies... that's enough value for what they are charging and about the amount of free time i have to invest in watching tv.

Can't wait this technology to make it into the hands of the US military where it will be used to justify sending a few missiles their way. Thank you for your service.
