Svelte would be my vote. I don't like all the hoops Sveltekit is jumping through. I just want to compile ahead of time and get a bunch of dumb static files I can host somewhere. It's sad watching them move away from that.

Svelte is still there, and Kit is there for fullstack applications.

They literally said that since at least January of this year: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/google-chrome-upgrade-planned...

They know it's anti-consumer. They see that the YouTube push is actually causing people to install more, smarter ad blockers. I myself have finally got around to setting up pihole. "We're serious, by 2027 your adblocker will be toast" whatever, if you think we're still using the browser to block ads, you grossly misunderstood your userbase.

can pihole block ads as effectively as ublock origin?

It's DNS level adblocking, so no.

E.g. If sites used a hardcoded IP address, pihole will be useless. Same applies if devices such as TVs use their own DNS/DNS over TLS.

Sort of see IP + DNS blocking catching on next once pihole becomes ineffective.

that's what I thought but I don't use pihole so thought it might be effective somehow.

No, it can't, as it primarily supports only domain blocking.

"Revenue was $56.5 billion and increased 13%" So that's why the mail app will start showing ads in 2024...

I worked for TMobile for 4 days in 2021. I don't usually apply to big companies but money was tight because pandemic and I needed a job quick. I was assigned to work on the config server (think in-house developed consul or etcd) and it was awful. "If this specific config value is being set by Service A then what is actually written should be twice the given value, but if Service B is reading the value, return 1/3 of the value as an HTTP form body instead of JSON." By Thursday I got a call about a new position and I left so quick that the recruiters black listed me. TMobile getting hacked is a "when" not an "if"

People say dev salaries are way too high but this is basically what internal systems look like at all the places that refuse to pay fair market value.

> I don't usually apply to big companies but money was tight because pandemic and I needed a job quick.

So T-Mobile offered you a "quick job" that immediately gave you access to their inner sanctum?

These threads are a hoot.

> TMobile getting hacked is a "when" not an "if"

I think something more accurate is

> TMobile getting hacked is a 'how many times', not a when

But adjust further...

> All cell providers getting hacked is a 'how many times', not a 'which'

> By Thursday I got a call about a new position and I left so quick that the recruiters black listed me.

That's one way to reduce headhunting spam.

Meh, I never worked with that recruiter before. Turns out they have a policy that if you quit without a 2 weeks notice you're black listed which to be fair makes a lot of sense. But I didn't just get a call about a new job, it was a previous boss I really respect starting up a new company.

A buddy sent me this article a few days ago: https://ghuntley.com/fracture/

If I hadn't read it, I might think Gitlab incorporating vscode was a good thing.

Seriously no time to read this.

What's the TL;DR?

TL;DR (meta phrased)

Microsoft is forking VSCode open source community by split licensing for source code and and official build of VSCode. If you build by yourself you can’t connect to VSCode is marketplace.

This allows them to fully control VSCode telemetry and reporting along with use on platforms such as Gitpod. It’s similar to how Apple controls apps on iPhone and in turn control how much you need to pay them if you earn money on it.

In long run everything going on cloud and SaaS/ PaaS platform holding the keys to developer tooling gate such as VSCode, Microsoft has unfair advantage over other competitors and still keep benefits of OSS

It's always the same: Microsoft seems to have turned and got away from its evil image, then they turn their all they have done good into more evil.

Some of us were suspicious of the “new Microsoft”, mostly because with the exception of a few projects (VSCode among them, and not anymore), nothing really changed. Turns out, we weren’t wrong.

Damn, that is a seriously long article lol

There is a short summary at the end.

Sounds like you've identified quite a few ambiguities. I'm glad we're moving towards the more direct Primary/Secondary wording.

Primary/Secondary implies a replacement relationship.

Master/servant implies different levels of authority and control.

Personally - I find the later much more compelling from a descriptive standpoint for this use of passwords.

Honestly, there are a ton of alternatives that I think make more sense - ex - Control password - Premier password - God password (although this probably violates some other policy...)

etc...

but primary is more familiar and and they probably liked the alliteration. Really - this just feels like marketing, though.

It's a reason to make people think & talk about Mozilla that's.... drumroll... once again not actually a compelling product or experience.

they don't mean the same thing.

It's so frustrating that an issue inside American society impacts 93% of the World who is not American.

We should drop American english as primary language and in this case use the German meister or even better the Italian mastro or its Latin root magister

Which are all translations of master and have no relation with slavery of any kind.

Like we also did to disambiguate free (gratis - another Latin word ) from libre (from Latin - again - liber)

English is too ambiguous and irregular.

EDIT: not for these decisions, but incidentally using Libre in the name, my goto alternative has become Librewolf. For the few websites that are broken in LW I use Brave.

I'll be lobbying universities to rename masters degrees to primary degrees.

Yeah, and I'm frustratingly tired that Microsoft Teams wants to remind me that I'm muted. I mute myself so I can say things to people in the room and not be heard online but this little narcissist can only imagine a world where I'm talking to it.

It's not even that the "Terms of Service & Privacy" link doesn't work, it's that it's not even a link. It's a div that sorta behaves like a link. Shady af.
