I'll have to check that out! I linked Children of Time in this thread which also does this well using this species

also check out the book Children of Time (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children_of_Time_(novel)). Reading it now (not sure how I missed it originally), pretty good evolutionary world building based on this species :)

Children of time is such a great work of fiction. It was strange for me to root for spiders over humans

A book that has pride of place on my shelf. I found myself speed-reading through the drama surrounding the human beings so I could slowly savour the progress of the spider civilization.

A truly wonderful work of sci-fi

probably plain ole prednisone... sometimes it works (esp if you catch it early), mostly it doesn't (it didn't for me)

nope - 15 years remote :)

Honestly, I wouldn't mind office 1x a week or so if it was within 15 min of my house, but based on COL it really isn't worth it. Any commuting beyond that is a waste of time (not to mention the stress, environmental impact, etc involved)

what is the purpose of humans in the animal kingdom? ;)

To feed mosquitoes

Finding and eating alien life.

yep - it is the culture that determines this. Ive worked at full remote companies that took time to mentor juniors and it worked fine

nice troll! wish I could downvote!

I did (mega man), but as others point out it was a diff time. Basically we would rent the game (remember that lol) and play it solid non-stop for 2-3 days trying to beat it.

i agree - I have been using it for years and found it much better than Ubuntu in general

I just pulled it (and switched to dockerd as default container runtime to use 'docker') - it seems to work as a great swap for docker desktop on mac. I like that volumes work well vs podman. Nice that you an trivy scan an image, etc.

Have you hit any sharp edges yet? I imagine there might be a few. Anything you can share would be great

Port forwarding is currently broken if you use dockerd but it will be fixed in the next release or you can run a command to fix it yourself. See https://github.com/rancher-sandbox/rancher-desktop/issues/12...

It fails to setup some filesystem links because of Unix permissions. You can fix it in command line. See https://github.com/rancher-sandbox/rancher-desktop/issues/11...

If you put your computer into sleep, the VM time will be out of sync. It's going to be fixed in the next release I believe. It's an old classic bug that happened to me with WSL so it was nice to see it again. https://github.com/rancher-sandbox/rancher-desktop/issues/83...

thanks!

Looks like the first and last issue is fixed in 1.0.0 (released 2 days ago). So only that second issue remains for now.

That’s good news. I did miss the release.
