`openssl help` ... the macos version hides the `Invalid command '--help'; type "help" for a list.` message.

that's kind of annoying. at the same time, this also underscores the issue of usability. why not alias "--help" to "help"?

yes, i know even critical open source projects are extremely underfunded. perversely, the lack of funding meant that there weren't enough people to review code, which meant contributing was difficult - at least according to this article from 2014 shortly after heartbleed: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2014/04/tech-...

Note that part of the problem is the erroneous assumption that "--help" is ubiquitous. It isn't, in practice. It's a GNUism that one does not find very often in the BSD world.

fair enough, but still: how much effort would it be to support both?

someone's bot needs work.

i had an intergraph reactor with the E chip; it was revolutionary.

Discrete apps aligned to SRP, such that they compose a System (Systems Thinking), solving the domain instead of the use case.

this is the dumbest thing i've read this year.

changing a stable API breaks it. there's no grey area.

i've avoided it entirely with my latest work project; no transpile, or unneeded tools... just awk & eslint.

there are no* "de-facto standards", just people doing what they think is popular 'cause they read about it on the net.

Only if you want to talk about something on there, otherwise it's just noise.

pretty sure it's been this way since 1.0

Oh the irony. Canada has significant data breaches, at all levels of public & priv sector... there's no way we're going to do anything better. No funding, no infra, no clue.
