Yea this happens to me too. The other person probably gave facebook access to their contacts.

> Are you prepared to travel to Tallinn and visit local banks in person to try convince one to open you a business account?

This can be deferred though. You can open an account with Transferwise or Holvi online and recieve payments/pay yourself a salary. You only need a bank account once you want to pay the share capital or withdraw dividends.

Also, if you use leapin.eu they get you a "pre-acceptance" from LHV bank _before_ you travel to Tallinn

> If you pay a dividend at the end of the year, it’s taxed as capital gains

Really ? I'm not in the EU but I would assume dividends would be taxed at regular income tax rate or a special dividend tax rate (and the company would pay corp tax). Only if you sell your shares in the company, the profit would be taxed as capital gains.

Yeah, really. At least this is the way it is in Germany. One should note, though, that taxes on capital gains are just another form of income tax and the boundaries are somewhat blurry. In particular, it doesn't necessarily mean you're paying more in taxes only because it's capital gains. (See also: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abgeltungsteuer)

Aren't we already doing this here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11611868

Yes, since the freelancer thread fills this need, I think it would be more interesting to have in a "I wish someone would build this" thread, where a specific need is articulated. The poster could add a bounty or something to it.

I second this idea of "I wish someone would build this". The freelancer thread is more generic. I sometimes need specific things like "Install wordpress on AWS EC2 with nginx" etc type of project. This way, I only hear from the freelancers (hopefully) who have done this before.

Yes, Freelancer seeking Freelancer fills this need. Unfortunately it had not been a regular monthly occurrence lately.

It has - see https://hn.algolia.com/?query=seeking%20freelancer&sort=byDa...

But sadly it hasn't made the front page in a while. It seems to be posted around 14:00 UTC - search around then and upvote once it appears.

What if i run tor on my computer and apply a system wide proxy through that port (9050 by default), is that any different from your setup ?

Yes, actually I built a prototype for myself but I suck at design so I dropped the idea. A clean, minimal tv guide would be a nice thing to have.

I'm going to build a new one but I would make something that people really use. Shall you want to talk about your project? Plese, email me (my address is on my profile)

Yes, mozilla mentioned this in a blog post when someone here on HN pointed that they should move persona out of the U.S. Being a U.S. company they have to follow the U.S. law regardless of their servers' location.

I believe this is the relevant thread: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5854813

Its a bit short on specifics though. I'd like to know which laws give the US access to data held on servers that are physically outside its jurisdiction. What happens when they are in conflict with local laws (e.g. EU privacy laws)? I though there were international agreements covering this.

If Apple can successfully use tens of shell companies to declare income outside of the US and thereby avoid taxes, I wonder if Mozilla and others could create shell companies outside the US to avoid surveillance.

I am in the same boat (built a couple apps, threw one of them away, decided to rewrite the other one but never finished doing that). I've been looking for someone to build side projects with. If you would like to collaborate on a project, shoot me an email (arsh.zingh at ymail).
