Coming from Windows and Mac, the multiple monitors experience on Linux is terrible, especially when the monitors have different refresh rates or different resolutions. It's getting a bit better with Ubuntu 24.10 but still not close to the smooth experience I have on Windows and Mac.

Recently I needed to switch to Wayland due to my monitors setup. Then I also needed to write a small program that capture application screen, which is a stupidly simple thing to do on Windows, Mac, or even on Xorg. For Wayland I had to jump through bunch of stupid hoops just to get it kinda working ...

Having to deal with windows on Windows regularly being placed on a monitor which didn't exist and windows on MacOS restoring to weird places... None of them are great. You get to choose your preferred set of problems.

What year are you currently living in? A good 2TB Gen5 NVMe with W/R speed upto 7,000MB/s can be had for less than $200 during sales that happen multiple times a year. Go down 1 tier lower to 4,000-5,000MB/s and you can have one for just $120. Nobody puts SATA in premium laptops, hasn't been the case for quite the few years, you got brainwashed good by Apple.

Because YT Music is also bundled into the price, and in my opinion it's a decent music streaming service. The big advantage of YT Music is you can find a lot of covers or mashups if you are into that, thanks to Youtube videos.

I also love covers and mashups, even guitar only or bass only (sometimes drums only) covers.

Out of curiosity, how is YT Music different to looking up music on regular youtube? (the latter is what I do). (just spent a couple of minutes googling/llm-ing but can only guess it boils down to 'background play' [hardly a 'feature' IMO] and better operability across multiple devices)

The main difference is that YT Music has different audio tracks than what comes from the videos in many cases (you can hear a difference when you click the "video" link in YT Music app, vs the Audio only). The audio only version is cleaner, and I think is more likely to come from an official source instead of an end user upload. And there are a lot more selection on YT Music (playing full albums, etc).

That is not the main difference, IMHO.

YT Music has a significantly modified UI. The entire UI is geared towards listening and discovery of music, artists, albums, tracks. If an artist is properly set up in the system, they will have a home page, and a list of their albums, songs, videos displayed. You can touch off a radio station playlist based on that artist, etc.

The difference in content is that many YT videos are simply unavailable inside YT Music, if they are not deemed "music". Therefore you won't be inundated by creators or comedy acts or newscasts, or anything but artists and music.

Music Premium has a feature that allows you to switch seamlessly between an "Audio" and "Video" version of your track. This is not magical but depends on both existing as YouTube entities. They do often match different audio tracks to a corresponding video. And if you're coming through an official "Artist" page then it may be more likely that you discover an official track, but I've never had trouble doing that in YT itself (it's usually a matter of "always only the second link in the search results").

Some artists configure "Playlists" and/or "Releases" tabs in YT proper, but indeed, YT Music is better organized so that you can discover those full albums and use them directly as a play queue.

I am fairly sure that there is no content exclusive to YT Music, only the structured presentation. All their tracks and videos are present and accounted for in YT itself; if you share a link/UUID you'll be able to find it. Conversely, as I mentioned, if it's not "Music" it won't be offered in that app. (This classification may be surprising -- I've found musical tracks and artists that aren't in there, such as the long-form BGM stuff. YT Music is for conventionally short tracks and vids.)

YT Music has music as a first class entity where Youtube itself does not and cannot, so it has features like related music, "radio" playlists based off a track, music recommendations, playlist generation, artist pages with a top 10 song list, and other features you expect from its competitors.

I doubt you can receive any signal on the plane. In the airport maybe.

But then you'll run the risks of your apps randomly breaking after OS upgrades. A simple Linux headers change can mess up apps installed via .deb files

I've never had this issue with Steam and I've been running it on linux for at least 5 years.

Actually I can't remember having it at all but I only have a handful of things installed through .deb files anyway.

Tax on unrealized gain is total BS. It's BS right in the name. Why don't they just say collateral assets are taxable, so the loan pegged on these assets will get taxed. The way they are going with is pure stupidity.

I am with you on that. I think they don’t because this trick is classically used by powerful old money families to generate tax free income from dynasty trusts.

TBH I feel like if I am into VR porn then I am definitely addicted and I'd need help from professional. Usually porn is like a quick dopamine hit, or a quick release for a biological need. For VR, you'd beed to be really really into porn, to spend all the setup time AND then still be in the mood ...

yes true. but isnt using addicted people for the own benefit the whole premise of most social media and alike. apple is maybe not into social media but I cant imagine zuckerberg not wetting his pants from joy if he thinks about million more people crippled to his attention gathering devices.

"An LLM, a Markov chain, and GPT-4 walk into a bar. The bartender says "We don't serve your kind here." GPT-4 leaves. The LLM stays to debate ethics. The Markov chain orders a bicycle made of spaghetti."

This is actually gold.

It’s... not?

Even for the low bar of a geek joke it makes no sense since GPT-4 is an LLM.

In normal English usage this would imply that the LLM was not GPT-4 LLM but some stereotypical anonymous LLM.

In business terms GPT-4 can be said to be superior because it understood the instruction and left, in AI terms the anonymous LLM might be superior because it may have understood the instruction but responded in an "intelligent" manner by arguing about the morality of the instructions.

At a meta-level the joke thus argues that GPT in achieving business ends has had its intelligence hampered. As have we all.

At the same meta-level as the joke was constructed by Claude it can be argued that Claude is commenting on both the intellectual limitations of the Markov chain (insane babblings), and GPT-4 (unimaginative, inhibited business type) and that the best version is some LLM that is not GPT-4 with its limitations - an LLM like Claude. Sneaky Claude.

It's implied that GPT-4 has so many restrictions that will not argue and just do what is asked. In the context of the joke, an unfiltered LLM will just debate you.

That’s what makes it gold.

Does the markov chain would write something that make more sense ?

You're watching a stage play - a banquet is in progress. The guests are enjoying an appetizer of raw oysters. The entree consists of boiled dog.

Is this to be an empathy test?

That was true when ARM was first released, but over the years the decoder for ARM has gotten more and more complicated. Who would have guessed adding more specialized instructions would result in more complicated decoders? ARM now uses multi-stage decoders, just the same as x86.

You just need to run some Monte Carlo sims where the priors are your desired rates, then use this results to alter the real numbers. It's as random as it gets.
