While I agree that facebook is mostly obsolete outside marketplace, one thing I cannot find substite for is small communities mostly tied to specific location. If I go to facebook it is for marketplace (we have nice dedicated web in our country that works great) but for one or two groups created for our neighbourhood and the wider area around us.

Isn't that what nextdoor is? I have no firsthand experience but hear it talked about.

Nextdoor has cornered the racist busybody market but nothing beyond that.

That's how I imagine facebook but haven't been there in years.

I have currently some relationship issues so I might be biased but I keep asking myself what will I miss if not in relationship except sex that cannot be supplemented with family or friends… I've yet to find the answer.

You can indeed have a perfectly healthy life with friends as your closest companions. It's really helpful to have a small number of partners who can take the primary position in an emergency, and it helps if they are in fact very close to you (ideally, cohabitating). There's no reason those people need to be sex partners, though it can be convenient.

You can construct your family in a lot of different ways. Having a lot of friends, some very close friends, and zero lovers is a perfectly valid one.

At least, it was becoming such. Legally, there is more and more push back against structures other than one male and one female, who are each other's sole and perpetual means of support.

I wouldnt be be surprised if there’s already a “relationship free” movement/group/trend similar to “childfree”.

There is, it is called MGTOW.

Vibes are totally different though. People go childfree by choice, whereas men go MGTOW because there __is no other choice__ (that they find easy or preferable). I've heard it described before as "men sent their own way (MSTOW)", which is fitting since one usually identifies with the label after many unsuccessful relationships.

this. I tried so many times to run away from google but I have to come back every time because all search engines are extremely anglo-centric (or maybe rather US centric) and really don't care about other localizations.

German results are reasonable if I select Germany as a region

It doesn't work for me, I do have ADD and lego puts me into flow, but after that I kust feel bad that I spent time and money on something without actual value. Thinking I could have spend that time on chores, home improvement or side projects...

But what do you mean without value you said it makes you feel good that's the best value ever.

Money is not like time - if you don't spend money you get to keep it. If you don't spend time, you waste it. You can't do chores all the time so instead of just doing nothing why not doing something that makes you feel good just for the sake of it

But pihole is dns only, any requests directly to ip address will still pass.

Pi hole will happily block IPs.

https://docs.pi-hole.net/ftldns/blockingmode/

None of those strategies block IPs. It's only a DNS server not a firewall or router.

don't we have more effective ways to seal in moisture and flavor than freezing fish in block of ice?

Yes. But not more effective ways of demonstrating this technology

If this technology is actually worth $10k, there should be a demonstration of an actually valuable cooking process with it. This contrived demo makes it feel less valuable than it might be (I don't really know if it's actually valuable...)

Scroll down. This is the first of ten examples.

I honestly believe that high intelligence while short term is extremely advantageous, long term it is self-destructive.

I like to imagine there are countless planets with perfect ecosystems of living organisms where no single species dominates whole planet.

I'm curious what makes you think that. That is, of course, one of the general solutions put forth to the fermi paradox. Ie either the species develops species killing weapons (like nukes) or individuals gain massively destructive weapons. But I find these things unlikely. Even exploding all of our existing nukes in the most devastating locations would not destroy humanity or the earth. We'd bounce back - tho if such an event is inevitable, perhaps we would ride an endless wax and wane between devastating destruction events every 1000 years.

There is no such thing as a perfect ecosystem because we live in an imperfect universe, this is if you look at any significant timescale. Eventually you're going to get hit by an asteroid or a gamma ray burst, or some mega volcano is going to pop and cause world wide levels of destruction. And generally we see some reestablishment species is going to dominate for some time.

changing climate controls, changing radio station, changing driving modes.

I can do those all without taking my eyes off the road. Not sure what you mean?

On a touchscreen?

When reports like this come up the counterargument is always FIAT bad tha is why we need bitcoin.

But why compare bitcoin to fiat and not to other cryptocurrencies? There are many that don't need such enormous amounts of energy to work. Why not use them in stead of bitcoin?

Because the other cryptocurrencies are actually shitcoins and scams.

I know that this statement is bold and makes people angry especially in the first world, but using the financial system as reference there are many reports out there of funds explaining why Bitcoin is the only “crypto” that will outlive, and that Proof Of Stake is basically and oligarchy scam system. So using a slang, this is not anymore a “trust me bro” argumentation.

Bitcoin is more centralized than some proof of stake chains. Just 3-5 pools control almost all of the hashrate. Many popular proof of stake chains have 20-50 validators, and some have thousands. Proof of stake is proven to be more decentralized than Bitcoin - except in cases like Ethereum which are similarly centralized.

IMHO, You have a wrong idea of what decentralisation means.

- light validator nodes, more than 50ks around the world - no foundations, CEOs, companies behind - proposals based on BIP - miners don’t own the chain since rules are based on nodes (except some quick activations in the past for segwit and taproot) - no premining - the only one truly censorship resistant (stratum v2) - I could go on and on and on

But yes, I agree with you on the mining pools topic.

Why don’t Bitcoin maxis prefer Monero? It seems you get better decentralization plus a more private digital gold and something that’s much more similar to p2p cash than Bitcoin, without needing a proof of stake chain.

Does Monero match all of those attributes of BTC that the parent listed? Lightweight validator is one of the big ones that most seem to trade in exchange for higher transaction throughput.

Same here. I really like it. Don't mind occasional connection issues, but what really irks me is that every message has separate notification. When someone sends me 5 consecutive messages I get 5 beeps. In whatsapp app I only get notification for the first one. So when there is some conversation going in group chat and I don't have time to read it right now I'm getting bombarded with notifications.
