Agreed! I really liked Ken Liu's translation of T3BP. I don't speak any Chinese or Asian-based lingo for that matter, but am a fan of the culture and rich history. Some of us that don't know the lingo, have issues with reading subtitled movies, for example, can only enjoy the art via audio dubbing. Godzilla Minus 1 comes to mind, as a good example of a movie that generated some controversy when translated and people claimed that it lost something in the translation. I'm sure they were right, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and was glad when it was dubbed into other languages.

That sounds about right from my experience. There's nothing worse than feeling excluded or manipulated by management or coworkers.

What people call "social skills" is nearly always manipulating other people into liking you. People of who its is said that they "lack social skills" are often more honest and much less manipulative.

Hmm, that has a ring of truth to it. I rarely stayed in jobs where managers tended to silence my points of view or opinions, rather than listening to it. That's not to say that there have been many job opportunities. Perhaps managers/others view honesty and directness as a threat to their position or authority. I've noticed that it is not localized to places of work but looks to be prevalent in most other societal situations. Perhaps emotional intelligence training should be incorporated into school curriculums, so children learn at an early age a bit of tolerance to other diverse points of views. I've tended to limit my posting in places like these as I've noticed a lack of emotional intelligence from some of the people that have replied. This is rather evident from the downward spiral exhibited by the constant downvoting of my comments. I prefer to take the high road with sarcastic levity whenever possible :)

.... no... That's not how that works

In my experience, where management is concerned, when employees demonstrated a bit more knowledge, a bit more fluidity, greater ease of communication, I noticed a very distinct change in management's demeaner towards the employees. The above comments are based on my past experience only. This past experience has made everyone involved a bit more sinical with respect to the importance of management. I personally think management should be replaced with an AI that can be turned on and off, as needed :)

That's a great design and idea. Have you considered designing a light-based Morse code device? The light would be invisible to the naked eye, requiring special glasses/detector to translate either mechanically or digitally. The source light (e.g. neon, lamps, something new) would be encoded with encrypted messages, so it doesn’t look like obvious Morse code by using aspects of steganography where encrypted data would be hidden in pseudo-random light intensity/pulse patterns mimicking candle flicker, noise, etc.). It would require a custom protocol, error correction, obfuscation. All made on the cheap.

Hmm, I remember seeing something like this mentioned in the show The Good Doctor. I forget the episode, but it deals with a patient who suffers severe burns in a bus crash and receives an experimental treatment using fish skin to aid in healing and minimize scarring. I never really felt comfortable with animal tissue being grafted to human skin. I don't believe animal tissue can be totally cleansed of contaminants. I'd rather feel more confortable with synthetic skin grafting. The movie, Darkman (1990) comes to mind.

With the world the way it is now a days and software/firmware being insecure, it is difficult to see Internet Voting as a secure means of voting. Paper ballots with multiple biometric tools or AI to measure a voter's physiological state of mind, honesty, confirm identity may be something that should be considered.

Hmm, interesting :)

I'm in a similar situation. In my case, I can't walk pain-free anymore with or without insoles. Operations are possible but again, not a good solution, just lots of metallic rods in affected areas, weeks to months of heeling, no work, not a permanent fix, more like getting a root canal, and getting a crown. I'm hopeful something meaningful, affordable comes out of all the research is being done.

Ok, this sounds promising. Looking forward to when human trials start :)

That's funny, but let's make it more plausible and less-sci-fish-ly satirical :)

Proposal: Using Trained Carrier Pigeons as Emergency Data Relays

Objective Create a simple, low-tech way to move digital messages across a large area when internet, radio, and phone networks are completely blocked.

Core Idea Pigeons carry small memory cards with the messages from one station to the next, like a chain of human couriers but using birds.

Steps to Set Up

1. Build small pigeon lofts (homes) at key locations across the area (e.g., every 50–100 km). 2. Train homing pigeons to fly reliably between each pair of nearby lofts (standard pigeon training methods). 3. At each loft, install a simple automatic device that: - Reads data from a memory card the arriving pigeon carries - Copies the data to a new memory card - Attaches the new card to an outgoing pigeon 4. Attach a tiny, lightweight memory card (e.g., microSD in a small protective tube) to each pigeon’s leg. 5. People at the starting point load their digital messages (text, small files) onto the card and send the pigeon. 6. Pigeons fly to the next loft → data is copied → next pigeon flies onward → repeat until the final destination.

Basic Protocol Rules - Each message gets a clear label (e.g., “To: City B, From: City A, Priority: High”). - Stations check cards daily and send pigeons in both directions when possible. - Use only trained, healthy pigeons; rest them between flights. - Protect cards from water and impact with a small, sealed case.

Realistic Performance - Speed: Hours to several days per hop, depending on distance and weather. - Capacity: One 256 GB card can carry thousands of text messages or a few large files. - Reliability: Works in no-power situations; depends on pigeon health and weather.

Damage Control -Add cyanide to the chip in case the pigeon gets captured.

This is a proven concept (used in wars before radio) updated with modern tiny storage.

AI Agents can be fun, at times :)

It would've been more fun to do this via a conversation with a real human

Semi-polished Response: Oh, believe me, this very old but bored squishy human brain dreamed up the whole pigeon relay twist. Mr. AI just polished my prompt into coherent words since aging has an effect on people's ability to think clearly, especially in the "Information Superhighway." Sorry if it robbed you of that authentic chat vibe, that always-in-a-hurry young'uns seem to thrive on.

Unpolished Comment: In other words, my comment was not levity. Learn to read the room, listen, close your mouth (e.g. flies may get in) and try to understand the deeper meaning in what others say or post before making an assumption.

More AI Polishing: (oh, I know you know) In case you missed the point, "pigeon relay" is a historical messaging system where homing pigeons carried notes in stages across long distances. Pigeons were raised at stations along a route. A message was attached to one bird and released; it flew home to the next station. There, the note was transferred to a fresh pigeon headed to the following station, and so on—like a relay race. Genghis Khan used this to span Asia and Europe. It was fast, hard to intercept, and worked when other methods failed.

Another Unpolished Comment: In other words, this could be a viable option to transfer information in places where regimes have instituted information blackouts that block all forms of modern electronic and digital communications, such as "Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea" and other places where crime is a daily occurrence, civil and human rights violations contine and remain unchecked or acknowledged by "Biased People" covertly embedded inside media outlets, especially the Western Media.

Extremely Unpolished Point of View: Inexperienced and younger people--hint, hint--are usually the first to criticize points of view like mine because they have been taught to think or feel a certain way by listening to a single source of news or point of view. Since I have lived thousands, hundreds, er tens of decades, I have learned the game, thus I prefer to bypass all that crap, ignore TV, ignore most if not all media outlets, and use word of mouth (e.g. people, shortwave radio) to verify what's going on in the world.

Hopefully this should convince you that I am a cyborg and not an AI :)

Sigh, my brain hurts :(

Got same issue with Edge, but works with Firefox :)
