I see and completely understand the need for having, let's say, a decentralized (from the Iranian) Internet. However, this requires resources, time and most likely money. I don't think you will be able to bypass/piggyback the Iranian Intranet or their Internet firewall, it will also make it easier for the Iranian government to track you if you try. The way I see it is trying to find your own Internet access. That sounds easy, but I can definitely see it not being the case. Maybe through satellite, maybe someone living close to a border and being able to use an Internet line from the neighboring country, there are more possibilities, I'm sure, but these come into my mind at the moment.

Let's say you manage to get independent Internet access, now you will have to find a way to get this Internet to all the people that want to use it, setting up the necessary network for that and keeping it hidden is another major task, will you risk using WiFi? If not, how will you get cable to necessary hubs? Can you trust all the people involved in setting this up or will someone inform the government because they love the current regime so much?

That being said, I'm sure that with enough money, motivation and maybe mobilization of help from people you can trust it is in theory, difficult, but doable.

Thanks for the comment. I wasn't clear enough so I added a reply since can't update the original post.

I'm a fan of the Millican brand [0], I own a Smith The Roll 18L one, awesome backpack.

Or Ortlieb [1], another very good brand

Definitely the remote work stuff, it's ridiculous how many people sit at the desk in a stuffy or crowded office while they could do the same work at home or wherever. Less cars (and less company cars needed, so potentially better pay), less commuters, less pollution. This is something that could benefit the environment, overall health and happiness of people and so much more. Just wish companies would get on board already, it's improving but a lot of countries and companies are still far behind.

I really don't get the hacker news algorithms on these posts, I've submitted this interesting article 7 days ago [0] and there was no interest (which is fine, that's not the issue). I guess 7 days is the cut-off then?

First off, reading your intro, I'd make sure to cover yourself from any liability the lack of security as well as the lack of apparent cooperation from the company so they can't hold you responsible for any breaches or problems.

That being said, I'd look into MSB (Minimum Security Baseline), there's quite some examples out there, like this one for example [0]

Besides that SANS has a very good reading room [1] where you can find a lot more information, as well as on individual items as on general ones.

The most difficult part will definitely be to change the way of working and thinking of the management of this company. Maybe show them an example of a company that was attacked using ransomware, they were down for a month, lost millions. I will try to find the example I'm thinking of, but there's plenty to be found out there.

Excellent material man, that will help me a lot for a kick start. Thank you very much,

After what seems a very long wait Tutanota now provides a free encrypted calendar along their secure email, a most requested feature. It's still beta for now but usable and I for one welcome it. I like the simplicity of the Tutanota interface but a calendar was definitely something I was sometimes missing.

It's a great list, I've kept the link from the last time [0] it was posted.

That was the first time! Last time was https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=19212822.

The problem are not the antibiotics in meat but bacteria resistant to them because of their use/abuse.

I asked my physiotherapist this question, the answer was "no", better to do exercises to strengthen your shoulder/back muscles. Start with low-impact exercises if you're not used to it yet.

Funny, I posted[0] this 4 days ago and it didn't get picked up... Here's the link to the article I referenced to for those interested [1]

Funnier is how one article has the hackers' chat logs with the names of the victim antivirus companies and the other doesn't.

Gizmodo [US] also gave the names of the victims: https://gizmodo.com/antivirus-makers-confirm-and-deny-gettin...
