I was a founder of a fintech startup (Kash) and I've worked with and around Stripe for about a decade now.
I think I know more fintech startup founders than the average person. I've literally never heard any of my founder friends saying anything about Stripe or Patrick or John acting improperly. They are among the highest integrity people I know.
This is one of the least helpful things people ever say. A family unit is a unit. Saying I'm putting my company above my marriage is like saying I'm putting my company above my health. This is just terrible; because if you are not healthy you can't run a company. In my case, my wife is as committed to the company as I am. There are days actually when she is more committed. She knows exactly when the stress points are and she knows exactly what is needed. I will come home some times and found that she had a few free hours and has dedicated them to the company.
When I see the applications of the types of people that made it through YC, it really makes me feel small. Either way, thanks for making this and good luck with Kash!
I think you're misinterpreting the comment. That's just a nice way of giving a compliment, essentially saying he's humbled by the quality of people applying; not necessarily that he doesn't think much of himself.
Thanks! That's part of our business that has evolved over time. Majority of our customers are not restaurants. In fact, we've learned the pain is massive even in e-commerce and for larger traditional retailers.
Thanks! Not the worse though! I go by Kaz because when I was in Junior High, the basketball coach spelled my name as Kazday Nejootsian. So you know. Improvement over time!
There are many different explanations floating around. The one I like the most is that it is actually US and that U is placed on top of the S. That's why there are often two vertical lines.
i'm located in north carolina, company is in VA, the company that acquired them has several international offices, not sure where they're based out of yet.
I can't recommend them other than to say that it is a fairly large firm and if I needed a first call, I'd probably call them.
If you want a smaller shop most bar associations have special practice groups. They have referall practices that are basically free or very cheap and can get you a basic lay of the land way better than anyone on here. Here is the one that I think is closest to you: http://www.meckbar.org/lawyerreferral/lawyerreferral.cfm
I don't know if you need a specialist or anything, but the firm we use is based in NC: http://www.rbh.com/ I don't have much to compare them to, but I've been pretty happy with their work.
Yeah. The wait sucks. I am with you. But the instances of marriage fraud used to be as high as 50% from some offices. Investigators were finding people selling books on how to dupe Canadians into marriage and ghost consultants selling whole fake marriage ceremonies.
I highly highly doubt the 50% number. But fine. Lets assume that for a second. Now that CIC has added a 2 year requirement on the conditional PR, they should make a public commitment to reduce the time it takes for getting your spouse into the country! That the CIC isn't doing so, and it keeps publicizing the unbelievably high marriage fraud numbers makes me feel like they are being disingenuous. My wife and I both have doctorate level education. It seems we'd be more welcome in other developed countries - more so than my own Canada.
It looks like the Skilled class still requires a letter of arranged employment[1]
It's crazy, because my brother easily meets the 67 points required, but without arranged employment he can't even apply. (I was the same, and ended up being sponsored by the province of Yukon through my employer.. which took over year)
EDIT: The whole thing is so confusing.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp
Says you must have a letter of arranged employment before you can even apply... then a bit further down it says that's one of the 6 selection factors and you can get up to 15 points for it.
I just filled out the online self-assessment as my brother and got 68 points without arranged employment. Can he apply or not?
EDIT2: Just spoke to CIC - it doesn't matter if you get 150 points, if you are not in the PhD stream, or the arranged employment stream, you can not apply. Fullstop.
