Shameless plug, I'm working on something like this https://myaipal.kit.com/prerelease

So I watched the demo video on your site, and honestly I'm not sure how this is really all that much better than what can already be done with ChatGPT.

The key is, I don't want to have to initiate the contact. Hand holding the AI myself defeats the purpose. The ideal AI assistant is one that behaves as if it's a person that's sitting next to me.

Imagine you're a junior that gets on a teams call to get help via pair programming with your boss. For anything more than just a quick fix, pair programming on calls tends to turn into the junior working on something, hitting a roadblock, and the boss stepping in to provide input.

Here's the really important part that I've realized: very rarely will the input that the boss provides be something that is leaps and bounds outside of the ability of the junior. A lot of it will just be asking questions or talking the problem through until it turns the gears enough for the junior to continue on their own. THAT right there. That's the gear turning AI agent I'm looking for.

If someone could develop a tool that "knows" the right time to jump in and talk with you, then I think we'd see huge jumps in productivity for people.

Sounds like you have developed some great product development skills in your time spent and learned about what doesn't work for building a business. Now it's time to fill that gap. Some questions to focus on for now are:

* Who are the people I want to serve?

* How do I find out what problems they have that I can help?

* How do I reach them?

* What can create to help them solve their problems?

* How do I get them to see me and my products as the solution to their problems?

* How do I become trustworthy enough in their eyes to try my products?

You can learn how to do a lot of this yourself and there are many courses out there like 30x500 that can help. As an alternative, you might want to find and partner with a good 'Business Guy' who can bring the audience while you build the product.

Really like this idea, a wizard to get all your preferences on setup that preconfigures defaults. Expand it to programming toolsets or whatever your primary use is and have a way to save and share it between different linux versions or even OS's a la dotfiles.

Love the idea of a wizard - but a lot of users will want as painless a setup as possible. if they can worry about configuration when they feel like it, if they feel like it, they may be happier. i.e., some way to use a one-time app for running that wizard later.

I second this. Ubuntu default config probably isn't perfect for anybody, but nothing is in the way, which I consider a major benefit. If I need automatic configuration, none of these ideas will move faster than a decent Bash script. Some configurations cannot be scripted well and that's where the room for improvement is.
